About the Doc

Welcome to my site dedicated to motorcycle rebuilds!  My name is Joseph Dean.  I have been motorcycle enthusiast since being able to walk.  I have accumulated a wealth of knowledge learning to maintain and repair my own bikes, and I enjoy wrenching in the garage as much as I do riding at the tracks.

Most all of my work is on dirt bikes, both 2 and four strokes, but you may occasionally see something different as I simply cant turn away a bike that needs help.

Recently I have been purchasing used dirt bikes that have been neglected or otherwise damaged, fixing them, and then selling.   So the purpose of this site is to document the work I do so that others may benefit and learn from it and also for people to see what time and dedication I put into each and every machine to prep it for sale.  If you are interested in purchasing any bike you see on my site, make me an offer as I will sell any of them except for the 2003 CR250.

So lets begin…

Below is the bike that started it all over again.  I had several different bikes when I was a kid, and once I was done with college, I couldn’t resist.  The bike that i got back into the sport with was a 2000 RM 125 that I traded my old jeep for.  I rode this bike for about a year before trading it straight up for a 98 CR 250.  It was the perfect bike to learn how to ride again.

It wasn’t long before the 125 just didn’t have enough power.  I wanted a 250 2-stroke, and  I was offered an even trade for a 98 Honda CR 250, so I jumped on it.  I don’t have many pics of it prior to the mods I did, but here are a few of me during my first race season on it.

Once the racing season was over, I decided I wanted to update my antiquated 98 CR for a more modern look.  Originally, I wanted to just swap out to the newer plastic design, but I soon realized that I that was not going to look right with the 1st generation aluminum frame.  So over the next few months, I purchased many parts on Ebay such as a 2003 frame, tank, airbox, sub frame, seat, plastics, radiators.  I had to do several small modifications to the frame, radiators, exhaust, and airboot in order to fit the 98 motor into an 03 frame.  But the end result was exactly as I had anticipated.  While this build was underway, I also purchased a 2003 cr 125 rolling chassis that I stripped and used the suspension and swingarm.  I am using KYB suspension front and rear.  Here are some pics of the end result.  More can be found at the following link:

Once this bike was completed, I decided I should try out a modern 4-stroke.  I found an 05 RMZ 450 on Craigslist that needed a new top end.  I managed to get it really cheap due to the extent of the damage.

This bike was a beast.  So beastly, it destroyed my elbow last July.  At Lakeside MX, I landed a small single in some soft mud.  The front end sunk in the mud and sent me over the bars and the bike crushed me and my elbow into the ground.

The recovery from the elbow took a good 5 months before I could even think about riding dirt again, and even then, it was very uncomfortable.  It took a long time to gain confidence back.  It is definately a life-long injury.  My left elbow still lacks approximately 20 degrees of full extension.

More to come…
